Karthik Thangavel’s Adanga Maru is about how a dejected and enraged cop puts up a fight against some powerful people with a lot of mind games and a little muscle power. An unabashed revenge drama, it also throws light on crimes, injustice meted out to the common people in our society, the corrupt system and how a common man becomes helpless without power.

Subash (Jayam Ravi) is a very sensitive sub-inspector and an IPS aspirant, whose world revolves around his family and girlfriend (Raashi Khanna). He’s also an expert in hacking and handling various gadgets. The mysterious death of a girl from a middle-class family upsets him when his senior officer (Mime Gopi) asks him to wrap up the case by terming it a suicide. Subash starts tracking down the case even after he being asked to back off from it. He nabs four youngsters who were involved in the murder of a girl and puts them in jail. However, a superior cop (Sampath) comes to the criminals' rescue. As Subash fails to provide evidences that prove the youngsters’ association with the crime, he is suspended from the department. A frustrated Subash goes home to find his dear ones murdered. He starts taking revenge against the youngsters and their parents one by one and dares the superior cop to avert it.

Though the plot isn’t anything new, the treatment which Karthik has given it, makes Adanga Maru fast-paced and interesting. Every artiste does what is required of them, but it is Jayam Ravi who shines in the role of a revenge-seeking, intelligent common man. The mind games used by the protagonist to avenge the villains in his life are convincing enough mostly and do not give much us the breathing space to think about the loopholes. Karthik’s frustration on the system, especially the inability to thwart crimes against the women, is evident in the movie, and at one point, he has included a scene where the public is allowed to participate in the execution of a rapist through a game.
