Shakthi Chidhambaram's Charlie Chaplin, which released more than one and a half decade ago, had ample situational comedies, engaging performance from its lead cast and a convincing plot. Charlie Chaplin 2 is similar to the former in two cases; one, the presence of Prabhu Deva and Prabhu and two, the numerous confusing situations.
Thiru (Prabhu Deva), who works in a marriage bureau, has successfully made matches for 99 weddings with the help of his colleagues (Arvind Akash and Chandana Raj). His parents now what him to get married, and he eventually falls in love with Sara (Nikki), the daughter of Ramakrishnan (Prabhu). On knowing this, Sara, too, expresses her interest and the stage is set for their wedding.
However, things take a sudden turn when Raja (Vivek), Thiru's friend, advices him to call off the wedding as he is suspicious of Sara's behaviour. He produces an evidence too to prove his point. A disappointed Thiru sends a message to Sara expressing his unwillingness in taking the marriage forward. Meanwhile, another girl, Saara (Adah), too, enters the premise. What follows further forms the rest of the story.
The film has an old, yet not so bad set up, which is taken forward by the director in an age-old formula. There are few moments which work, thanks to the performance of Prabhu Deva, who carries the movie on his shoulders. Nikki, Prabhu and Adah does their part neatly. Vivek and Ravi Mariya's presence evoke laughter in some scenes.
