Modern-day couple Akash and Anisha pretty much want the same things out of their casual, open relationship – optimum enjoyment till the freshness of the companionship withers away. But love comes knocking at their door unexpectedly, just like love usually does. And that’s when two very different worlds collide – Akash’s traditional parents scouting for a ‘homely’ daughter-in-law and a London-based NRI and her folks who follow the ideologies of the western world.
If you have watched hundreds of romcoms and wondered ‘what new in this genre?’, then director Amit Agarwal ‘s ‘Fastey Fasaatey’ most certainly does not answer that question or bring something new to the table. Two good-looking people come together, spend significant amount of time together and fall in love. Has happened before, will happen again.
The story is predictable and the punchlines sound like extensions of some of the popular one-liners from other romcoms in the past; quite average. The length of the film is also a problem, and so is the way this film’s cinematography has been planned and executed – even people who have only seen the beautiful city of London in pictures (and I count myself in that list) know that ‘Fastey Fasaatey’ was not shot there.
Karishma Sharma and Arpit Chaudhary as the lead pair are personable and almost adorable together, but their chemistry (even in bed) does not come across as too convincing. The friend Dev (Nachiket Narvekar) is hilarious in parts but soon after poor writing takes over, and then it’s just downhill from that point. The supporting cast is a blend of extremes – some are too bland and some too melodramatic; a fine balance would have done the trick.
