Life is always better when you’re sharing it with your best friend. In “Never Goin’ Back,” a raucous comedy written and directed by Augustine Frizell (and yes, country music fans, she is a relation—Lefty Frizell’s granddaughter; she’s also an actor) the best friends share bong hits, poverty, kisses, harder drugs than weed, criminal schemes, self-imposed bowel constriction, and more.

This week-or-so-in-the-life of Angela (Maia Mitchell) and Jessie (Camila Morrone) is as action-packed as you get, or maybe as you wanna get, on the other side of the tracks in Fort Worth, Texas. The movie opens with the two teens in bed in their underwear. Angela, the pert brunette, wakes up Jessie, a dyed blonde with purposefully displayed roots. They make their way from their room to that of their male housemates, where Angela has something to show Jessie. No, it’s not the particular porn videos one of the boys of the house has left on in an open screen window, although they watch that, just to laugh and scream at how gross it is. No, she wants Jessie to see the beautiful beaches of Galveston, where Angela has contrived to take Jessie for her seventeenth birthday. Apparently, her 16th birthday “sucked.”
