Where is the Venkatalakshmi is an aimless exercise in the name of a horror-comedy. Women are objectified, bullied, stalked, harassed, looked down upon and even blackmailed in the name of fun or drama by this film’s lead characters, the aimless duo Chantigadu and Pandugadu. The rest of the characters don’t tend to treat them any better either.
There’s a rowdy Veera Reddy (Pankaj Kesari) who’s introduced as a heartless individual who doesn’t shy from wielding the knife to get what he wants and loves to crack jokes that aren’t funny. The only person he will cave in front of is his sister Gowri (Pujita Ponnada) who is head-over-heels in love with Sekhar (Ram Karthik). Sekhar is friends with the village losers Chantigadu and Pandugadu, who try to bring the lovers together and fail, due to their wayward ways. There to give them a taste of their own medicine is Venkatalakshmi (Raai Laxmi), the new teacher in town who dresses like she’s heading to a cocktail party 24/7.
It's almost as if the writers of Where is the Venkatalakshmi decided to sit at the table and create the worst characters to ever be made on-screen. But out of the whole assorted lot, Chantigadu and Pandugadu take the cake for being sexist, alien to the concept of consent and having no ambition in life other than mooching off their aged grandmother. They spy on women taking baths, film them, drug them and con people with no remorse. While the end of this tale tries to make us believe that they change for the better, it’s really not convincing.
