Sara Ali Khan’s debut film Kedarnath received a mixed response from critics. However, it seems the film is here to stay, thanks to word of mouth promotion. Starting off with Rs 7.25 crore, Kedarnath showed growth during the weekend. It earned Rs 9.75 crore and Rs 10.75 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
The film, set against the backdrop of the Uttarakhand floods in 2013, is a love story of a Hindu girl and a Muslim porter. Kedarnath has been banned in Uttarakhand as people accused the film of hurting Hindu sentiments and promoting love jihad.
“The dream was that I could pass on this story to some people. We shot the film in Uttarakhand. We stayed there for 40 days. I have the best memories of my career there. It is very disheartening to not give back to them because they have given me so much.
